To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Silverado HD uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Ram HD requires mid-grade for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 49.8 cents more per gallon.

The Silverado HD has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Ram HD doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Chevrolet Silverado HD, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Ram HD.

The Silverado HD stops shorter than the Ram HD:

For better traction, the Silverado HD has larger standard tires than the Ram HD (245/75R17 vs. 235/80R17). The Silverado 2500 HD Standard Bed ZR2 Crew Cab Pickup’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Ram HD (305/70R18 vs. 285/60R20).

The Silverado HD’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 75 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ram HD DRW’s standard 80 series tires.

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the Silverado HD LT/LTZ/High Country offers optional 22-inch wheels. The Ram HD’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Chevrolet Silverado HD’s independent front suspension is much lighter than the Ram HD’s solid front axle, which allows the Silverado HD’s wheels to react more quickly and accurately to the road’s surface, improving both ride and handling.

The Silverado HD’s standard power windows allow the driver or passenger to lower and raise the windows without leaning over or being distracted. Power windows cost extra on the Ram HD.

The Silverado HD’s standard front and rear power windows all open fully with one touch of the switches and its driver’s window also automatically closes, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ram HD’s basic optional power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully. Only its front windows open automatically.

On a hot day the Silverado HD’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Ram HD can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Silverado HD’s standard power locks allow the driver or passenger to lock or unlock all the doors at a touch without leaning over. Power locks cost extra on the Ram HD.
